I bought my home in July 2001. It's a simple, three bedroom rambler with an attached garage, 1 and 2/3 bathrooms, and an unfinished basement. I had huge plans with this home purchase. I was going to finish the basement, create an elaborate outdoor living space in back, and an immaculate landscape with the best curb appeal in the neighborhood in front.

Life changed shortly after I purchased the house. The September 11 terrorist attacks left the nation in shock, our country went to war, and our economy has struggled to meet the needs of our citizens. Throughout the national and personal struggles, I have managed to hold onto my house, but my dreams have often felt more like nightmares. Like many others, I have survived layoffs, deaths, career and financial downgrades, and the fear of losing a home. The condition of my house and yard, however, has suffered a lack of upkeep during this time, however.

Now that I am getting more comfortable in a new career that I enjoy and do very well, it's time to put a little bit of TLC back into my house. It's time to finish the basement, organize my belongings, and make this dwelling more than just a house and transform it into a comfortable home. I want to start feeling secure enough to welcome visitors back into my home for dinners and other social activities.

This blog is going to be the place where I will share thought on how I would like to transform this important building. I will share photos with before and after photos of the upgrades. I may even create polls to ask my readers what I should do. I hope you enjoy this blog and will help me dream again.

I am a writer, an artist, an athlete, a brother. I have the crazy dream of making my part of the world a better place. I like to do kind things in secret and observe the joy I bring into other people's lives. I love to share my views, but I will do whatever it takes to avoid the spotlight.

I can't stand seeing others being treated unjustly. I hate the direction our government is taking this country. Since when did taking care of those who can't take care of themselves become evil? Everybody deserves to be treated with dignity, and I think we all appreciate when someone else has offered to lift us up.

I am your neighbor, a student, a teacher, your brother, and your son. I am Mystery McMann.
